Meet Jojo Quiroz, Mortgage Loan Originator in Our Destin Branch

For Jojo Quiroz, a Mortgage Loan Originator, in our Destin, FL branch, entering the mortgage industry was one-part happenstance and one-part career change – which ultimately grew out of his family’s difficult experience with homeownership. Today, he’s a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) turned Loan Officer with a deep understanding of his clients’ desire to realize their dream of homeownership.
Read on to learn more about Jojo, how he got his start in Lending, what brought him to Gulf Coast Bank, and his in-depth approach to client service.
How Did You Get Started in the Mortgage Business?
“It was all by accident. The funny thing is my brother and I were raised by a single mom. We lived in a rental for most of my younger years and I remember my mom wanting to buy a townhome for us to call home. She would go from lender to lender getting denied and coming home crying from what I remember. That was impactful for me.
So when I was led down this path, I didn’t realize how many people were in the same type of situation and that I had the opportunity to help them. That’s my motivation, really.”
How Has Your CPA Experience Added to Your Expertise as a Loan Officer?
“When I first started out, I was originally a CPA working to audit different businesses. This experience helped me in that I’m able to understand complicated financial records. Being able to evaluate complicated financial records, means I can provide a more detailed analysis for my clients. If they’re not ready to buy a home now, I can help them devise a timeline to help them achieve their dream of home ownership.
Unlike my mom’s experience, for example, where she was turned down with a big ‘No,’ I pride myself with taking the time to talk to my clients and provide some form of action plan, that way it’s not necessarily a “NO”, it’s a “NOT YET”!
What Led You to Join Gulf Coast Bank Home Loans?
“I’ve been with Gulf Coast Bank for 4 years now. I was referred by a friend, a fellow Loan Officer and soccer dad whose son also played on my son’s soccer team. When I learned there was a position available in the Destin market, my home market, I jumped at the chance to work for a great hometown community lender.”
What Type of Loan Products Do You Work With Most Frequently?
“Most frequently, I work with Jumbo Loans and Conventional Loan purchases. I’ve also begun to work in New Construction Loans as well. Since we are so close to several Military Bases here in Destin, I also frequently work with Veterans, we offer a wide variety of VA Loan Programs. All are fantastic & competitive products that offer clients flexibility and the ability to tailor the loan program for their unique needs and financial situations.”
How Do You Approach Client Service?
“I believe first and foremost, it’s important to understand your client’s goals & challenges as well as their timeline for meeting that goal. This helps me create a few well-rounded possible scenarios and timelines where I can help them achieve their goals.
How Are You Active in Your Community?
“My family and I are very involved in our church and neighborhood organization. We like to help wherever we can for fundraising, neighborhood clean-ups, and various church fundraisers each year.”
What’s Your Ultimate Motivation in Your Lending Work?
“I really strive to help families by giving them something to look forward to – the dream of homeownership – and a new start rooted in stability and security. My goal is to help make the loan process as simple and worry-free as possible. I walk my clients through the entire process, from application to closing, always available to answer questions and preparing them for what comes next.”
